“Henderson Mill Elementary isn’t just a school - it’s a community. Teachers and admin know each student by name and genuinely care about their story. As Georgia’s first STEAM/STEM-certified elementary school, STEAM isn’t just a label - it is woven into nearly all aspects of learning. My kids have not only gained academic skills at Henderson Mill, they’ve gained confidence and a love of learning that will stay with them for life.”

Hear From Our Parents
“I believe HMES is a unique and positive learning environment for my 1st grader because of the supportive community, dedicated faculty and teachers, and the innovative STEAM program that has been built and fostered in this school. My son will tell you that he wants to be a scientist now when he grows up and that is a direct result of a science presentation HMES hosted recently. He participated in his first technology competition last week (I say first because there may be more to come) that we may not have even heard about if it weren’t for the STEAM program. As someone who came up in Gwinnett Co. mega schools, it’s nice to have a small-school feel where everyone knows my kid’s name and he’s able to befriend multiple students from every grade level. That was not my reality growing up- my own mother worked at my high school and I still never knew even most of the teachers. I graduated with 600 other seniors. I wasn’t a big fan of that looking back and if my kids can matriculate through a system of smaller school communities, I’ll pick that for them over what I experienced any day. As a social worker, I understand the importance of a school community on a child’s welfare and how vital our school staff are to noticing changes in a child that can lead to early interventions and to supporting a student who has special needs, trauma, or learning challenges. It’s not hard to figure out why a smaller school environment is best for children, especially elementary aged children. I also love that my son attends a school where the school-body represents many countries, ethnicities and cultures”
“HMES is such a wonderful community school. Both of my children have thrived here. They have had amazing STEAM experiences that are only possible at a small school like this one. Keeping HMES open will benefit so many more children in the future!!”
Closing Henderson Mill Elementary risks eliminating the programs, partnerships and hands-on, intimate learning environment that can’t simply be replicated elsewhere.
