Henderson Mill Elementary School became the first Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (STEAM) elementary school in Georgia in 2017. Every few years we go through a rigorous recertification process which ensures our students are receiving the best possible STEM / STEAM education. It is a mark of distinction and excellence given to schools who follow a certified STEM / STEAM curriculum and adhere to the highest of academic standards.

Every student at HMES is a part of our STEAM program. Students go to a STEAM class every week and are led by our incredible dedicated STEAM teacher, Ms. Corrales.

Along with weekly STEAM classes, students can join STEAM-related after-school clubs like Science Olympiad, Mathletes, Garden Club, Art Club and Theater Club.

We partner with the Alliance Theatre to bring theater and production education into our Pre-K and Kindergarten classrooms. Members of the Alliance Theater visit our Pre-K and Kindergarten classrooms for six sessions to elevate teacher practice and impact student academic and social-emotional growth through arts integration, STEAM and theater.

Henderson Mill also provides exciting STEAM-related events and programs to our students to encourage curiosity and real-world application of what they learn in class. Every year we have a Henderson Mill STEAM Day where students spend the whole day performing experiments and learning about different fields of science. This year we are focusing on the medical field! Along with STEAM Day, our students get to experience presentations throughout the year from people who work in the STEAM field like Michael Green (Science is for Everyone), Feathers with Furr (ornithologist),  and more.

Closing Henderson Mill Elementary risks eliminating the programs, partnerships and hands-on, intimate learning environment that can’t simply be replicated elsewhere.
