Save Henderson Mill Elementary

What’s Happening

Earlier this year, DeKalb County School District recommended the closure of more than 20 schools across DeKalb County, including Henderson Mill Elementary. They have since shifted to focusing on redistricting the Lakeside, Cross Keys, Chamblee, Dunwoody, Tucker, and Druid Hills clusters to accommodate the incoming Sequoyah cluster (2029). They will vote on redistricting/school closures this December 2026. They have clarified that school closures are still a possibility so the HMES community needs to remain engaged in the discussion!

Why Henderson Mill Elementary School is Special

Henderson Mill Elementary School is Georgia’s first STEAM-certified elementary school, offering hands-on, project-based learning to every student.

This Affects DeKalb County

This isn’t just about Henderson Mill. This SAP plan affects thousands of students across DeKalb County.

Should major decisions affecting thousands of students move forward without basic impact studies, clear data transparency or consideration of alternatives to school closure?
